I left books for my career. Here’s what happened.

I’m a sucker for words. I actually find them quite attractive. I wonder if that’s a thing in the real world as nowadays there’s a name for almost everything. I guess I’d have to google something like “why do words make me drunk?”

But anyway, so I stopped writing and reading altogether about 9 months ago. I wanted to focus on my career; which apparently is quite different than writing or reading. I’m a coder. That’s right. A techie. I love that too though.

There’s this dialogue I absolutely adore from a Korean drama series. “Keep your first love as your hobby and make your second love, your profession.”

It kind of doesn’t make any sense and that’s why makes perfect sense. Just like this sentence.

But anyway, let’s get back on track. I really have a terrible habit of getting distracted a lot.

Here I present the things that I believe were good.

  1. I got to focus more on my coding skills as I did not read and write for hours.
  2. I believe I interacted with people more, got out of my head, and knew a little more about the real-world which I previously absolutely ignored.
  3. I found some new interests outside of words like photography, cinematography, videography, and voice artistry if I may say.

On the other hand, I still believe it wasn’t worth it. “why?” you ask?

  1. I craved writing. You see I’ve been reading and writing since I was nine. You can’t just rip away a part of your life and think it’ll be alright, that it won’t matter. of course, it would. Your hobbies are something that acts as your hiding space, your happy place, and more importantly, we think of our hobbies as something that’s a part of us. It matters. Period.
  2. Today, I can’t write as well and as fast as I used to. It was easier to jot down words and bind them like a beautiful melody. it feels like work now. Then, it was all play. Reading? let’s not even get started. so you see. If you stop doing what you regularly do, you might eventually not be as good at it as you are now.
  3. I wanted to get rid of something I found distracting. What did I end up doing? Finding more distractions. That’s right people. We are naughtier than we think. I now own an Instagram account which I previously absolutely hated. I now know about a lot of YouTubers, musicians, actors, and what not! I’m overflowing with over information!

Alright, people. That’s all for now. Long story short, it’s not worth it. Don’t be stupid. Don’t do it. Books are love. I would hopefully come back with hopefully more interesting and not stupid stuff for you.

Until then, lots of love.
